"Pedro de Valencia" Woman "
Pedro de Valencia (1902-1971). Painter, draftsman and Valencian writer whose real name was Pedro Sánchez García, being known by his pseudonym Pedro de Valencia. He was born in Valencia in 1902, son of Pedro Sánchez Colomer and Nieves García Esteban.
He enrolled in 1914 at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos where he was a student of José Benlliure, and became friends with the Valencian painter Genaro Lahuerta. The work of Pedro de Valencia, together with that of Genaro Lahuerta, represents a more progressive art compared to the sorolism that had been installed in the Valencian painting of the time.
The painting of Pedro Sánchez is sentimental, as reflected by Adolfo de Azcarraga in the chapter of his book dedicated to this painter; "Pedro is an expressionist, because his painting always comes to express the inner world of his feelings. Strictly speaking, each of his paintings is a sentimental manifestation. "
His painting is among the collections of the Provincial Council of Valencia, Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia, Municipal Museum of Valencia, Museum of Modern Art of Madrid, Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia, Museum of Fine Arts of Castellón, Collection of the Bancaja Foundation of Valencia, Contemporary Art Museum of Villafamés (Castellón), Estil Gallery of Valencia, Círculo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, and other private collections.
