Ma Jin (1900 - 1970) "Enlightened Buddha", 1936

Pigments, watercolour and ink on paper, with brocade frame. In the centre is a figure with the characteristics of an enlightened Buddha with the appearance of a "Guanyin", dressed in a long traditional robe and standing on lotus blossoms. In the upper right-hand corner is a Buddhist text accompanying the depiction. In the lower left corner is the date "丙子春三月" (March in the spring of the Bingzi year), the signature "伯逸馬音敬畫" (Painting by Ma Jin Boyi), the author's seals "伯逸" and "馬晋". This painter was also a calligrapher.
