Agate Dzi bead “Nine Eyes,” Tang dynasty

Tubular, slightly barrel-shaped agate Dzi amulet. The dark brown surface is engraved with a white design representing the auspicious motif of the “nine eyes,” one of the most highly valued motifs, interspersed with a pattern of curved or wavy lines. It shows patina due to aging.
