Ceramic ‘Cizhou’ jug, Song dynasty

Ceramic modelled in the form of a jug, with a rounded body and shoulders on which are placed a long cylindrical mouthpiece and the base of the curved handle attached to the elongated tubular neck. It is covered with a beautiful off-white glaze on which there is a soft crackle glaze. The belly has a decorative border of incised vegetal motifs of curving branches, sinuous leaves and large flowers, a common decoration on Cizhou kilns. Song Dynasty (960-1279) or later.
