Large bronze "bhumisparsha" Buddha, Thailand, 18th century

Bronze Buddha, with patina and traces of polychromy, depicted with his hands in a "bhumisparsha mudra" posture to symbolize enlightenment or awakening. He is seated on his legs with a serene face while his right hand is resting on his lap and pointing to the earth. He wears a simple "sanghati" robe and presents the attributes of a Buddha. The figure is on a wooden stand. It has some flaws but is in good condition.

The features of the face and hair, as well as the quality of the figures, are consistent with the period of the late Ayuttahaya and early Rattanakosin reigns.
