Hardstone seal “Mythical Beasts”, Qing dynasty

Great seal of carved hard stone of brownish tonality with greyish spots. It has a rectangular and wide plant, on which are arranged two fierce mythical beasts of different sizes, with large eyes, elongated horns and open jaws, showing the teeth. The bodies are arranged on a sea of coiled and raging waves. The beasts, gathered on their four flexed legs, are covered with small quadrangular scales, made by incisions. On the base there is a seal with twelve carved characters.
