Lacquered wood snuff bottle carved “Scenes,” Qing dynasty, with Qianlong seal
Flat-shaped snuff bottle, made of wood with bronze fittings, decorated with cinnabar lacquer, carved in a deep red color. Both sides are decorated with landscape scenes depicting a scholar and beautiful landscapes full of nature with traditional architecture. The sides feature geometric fretwork motifs with fine intertwined branches. The piece is completed with a concave stopper in the shape of a chrysanthemum with fine petals. The base bears an incised seal with four characters: “乾隆年制”.

The collector worked in the field of Oriental art. Thanks to his knowledge and sense of quality, he was of great assistance to many members of the Kinaklubben, including the Swedish Crown Prince Gustav Adolf, Emil Hultmark, and Carl Kempe. The collection was mainly acquired in Sweden and London.
