Meiping glazed ceramic vase "Lions among clouds", with Zhengde mark

A meiping-shaped glazed ceramic vase with a globular, broad-shouldered body and a short, slightly open neck. The surface is decorated in relief with a group of Buddhist lions, also known as “Fo lions”, amidst stylized clouds, surrounded by auspicious motifs and symbolic decorations. The enamel, in the Sancai “three-colour” technique, combines shades of yellow, green and purple-brown, applied over an engraved base. The lower part is decorated with decorative bands of wave and banana-leaf patterns, while the upper part is decorated with inverted leaves. Below the neck is an incised inscription with the legend “正德年制”.
