Snuff bottle ‘Gallant Scene’, with Qianlong brand name

A small gilt-metal snuff bottle with a flared foot on which stands an oval body with a flat profile, crowned by a thin neck and a rounded mouth. It is decorated with two central medallions depicting a gallant scene, with a man and a lady of clear Western influence. The rest of the body is decorated with gilded reliefs of floral motifs and geometric spiral borders. On the base there is a four-character mark in blue enamel ‘乾隆年制’.
