A white jade sculpture of a Fo Dog or guardian lion, a traditional symbol of protection in Chinese culture. The figure shows the animal standing with its front paws firmly on the ground and its head turned to one side in an alert attitude. The mane, eyebrows and tail are intricately carved with incised lines and curved forms that provide movement. The body is incised to simulate muscle folds and ornamental scrolls along the legs. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
