18th-19th century Italian school, 'Saint Philip Neri Preaching'

Oil on canvas. Depiction of the Florentine saint, founder of the Oratory, preaching to a group of faithful with a burning heart on his chest. The work follows Baroque devotional models that continued into the 19th century, characterised by expressive emphasis, pyramidal composition and light contrast.
