The painting depicts a dynamic, dramatic, and complex scene from classical mythology, directly inspired by the Baroque styles of Peter Paul Rubens and the Flemish masters. At the heart of the violent conflict is the Centauromachy, highlighting the moment when the centaur Eurytion attempts to abduct the bride, Hippodamia, who struggles helplessly in a forced foreshortening. Around her, Lapiths armed with daggers and clubs furiously attack the mythological creatures in a choreography of intertwined bodies, tense anatomies, and billowing drapery. In the lower left corner, an overturned table laden with fruit, vases, and linens provides context for the interrupted wedding banquet. The piece is notable for its loose, vibrant, and expressive brushwork, as well as its profound chiaroscuro, dominated by reddish tones, earth tones, and pearly flesh tones. It is displayed within an imposing frame.
