The piece draws direct inspiration from French models of the Empire period. Her dark hair peeks out from beneath the headdress in the form of defined curls at her temples, a style typical of the early decades of the 19th century. Notable is the white headdress covering her head like a veil or scarf, finished at the forehead with a fine lace band embroidered with meticulous detail.
