A large "Ding" purple-splashed glazed, Jun kiln

Awarded For. -
Lot 156.
Description.

A pottery tripod “Ding” censer modeled with elements of dragons and furious heads in relief around the body and feet. The vessel has a belly and supports a tall round neck with a prominent mouth. On each side it has an ear-shaped handle with curled corners, and another recessed rectangular handle, which is attached to the neck and mouth in the shape of an "L". The three feet are curved outwards and have reliefs on the elbows. The glaze is blue with purple splashes, milky in appearance, with the lightest parts located in the corners and reliefs. The center of the interior and the ends of the feet are unglazed.

The Jun kiln was one of the most renowned for making blue-glazed pottery with purple splashes. Most censers are of small dimensions and those with these dimensions are extremely rare.
