Agate and Dzi bead necklace, Liao dynasty

Crafted from natural agate in various shades. The set is strung on a black silk cord and comprises three main elements: a central Dzi-style bead in an elongated spindle shape, made from an unusual translucent olive-green and grey agate with three banded white stripes. On either side are two amber-coloured beads, carved into a complex biconical shape. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
