Description.
Carved agate, notable for the colour contrast between the white background and the dark brown decorations. It has a spindle-shaped form, adorned with a symbolic composition of heaven (circle) and earth (square) in the centre, flanked by parallel bands at the ends. It shows signs of patina due to age. Tang Dynasty (618–907) or later.
