Agate Dzi Bead “Twenty-Five Eyes,” Liao Dynasty

Large natural agate bead with an elongated profile, widening in the center, featuring a crosswise hole and rounded edges. It has a jet-black background with ivory-white designs. It displays a total of twenty-five “eyes” arranged in several horizontal rows. The center is dominated by a large octagonal medallion enclosing a central eye, flanked by a dense grid of smaller eyes and sinuous bands. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
