Description.
Two-coloured agate sculpture, known as ‘南红’, carved representing a Luohan seated in a meditative attitude inside a grotto formed by a large volume of intense reddish tonality, corresponding to the nanhong variety. The sage wears a simple robe, with a serene and placid face and both hands clasped together and resting on his lap. The stone has been masterfully worked to contrast the smooth, polished surfaces of the grotto with the delicate carving of the figure. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
