Description.
White jade with areas of reddish and honey-coloured patina. The piece is shaped like a square-based seal, crowned by a round carving of a dragon with its head raised and turned, and a sinuous tail. The figure is meticulously carved, with detailed work on the scales, mane and facial features, giving it an expression of great authority and spiritual vigour. The base of the seal is engraved with calligraphic characters in a sigillary style. The piece comes with a custom-made pedestal and box, both lined with colourful fabrics. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
