Ancient seal ‘Archaic Beast’, carved from jade

Celadon-toned jade with reddish-brown areas covering the surface. The piece has a rectangular base, crowned by the image of a mythical creature. The beast stands upright, with its head raised and jaws open, revealing sharp fangs. The musculature and fur are detailed with fine incised lines. The base has incised characters for use as a seal. It comes with a pedestal and a custom-made box lined with traditional fabrics. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
