Ancient seal ‘Mythical beast’, carved from jade

Celadon-toned jade with reddish areas and dark inclusions. It has a square base, crowned by a round carving of an alert beast with its body hunched and its head tilted, its jaws open. The figure is shown with an expression of vigour, detailing its musculature and fur. The base of the seal is engraved with calligraphic characters in a sigillary style, intended for stamping. It comes with a custom-made decorative box. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
