Ancient seal ‘Reclining Beast’, made of yellow jade

Yellow jade with ochre and cinnamon iridescence. It has a square base, crowned by a reclining beast, with its body curled up in a vigilant posture and its head tilted to one side. The figure is depicted with powerful volumes and angular lines. The base is engraved with calligraphic characters. It shows patina and wear due to ageing. It is accompanied by a custom-made pedestal and box lined with multicoloured fabrics. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
