Asian painting ‘Green Tara’, 19th century

Ink and pigments on wood panel. The work depicts the Buddhist deity Green Tara, seated in her characteristic ‘royal ease’ posture (lalitasana) on a lotus throne emerging from a pond with flowers. The figure is adorned with jewels, a five-pointed crown and her torso partially covered by fine silks, holding in her left hand the stem of a lotus flower blooming next to her shoulder.
