Banded natural agate bead, Liao dynasty

Natural agate, with alternating natural bands in shades of cream, honey and caramel. The piece has a slightly curved profile that tapers at the ends. It stands out for the fineness of its parallel bands, creating a beautiful visual pattern. It has a longitudinal perforation for use as a protective amulet. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
