Description.
Sculpture carved in boxwood (黄杨木). This figure represents Budai, one of the best known characters of Chinese Buddhism. The figure is seated, with a relaxed posture and smiling face. In his left hand he holds a bag, while with his right he holds a staff. The carving of his clothing is detailed, with folds showing the movement of the fabric. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
