Description.
A small cast-bronze censer, rectangular in shape with a deep body that sits on four sturdy cylindrical legs. It has two arched handles that rise from the upper edges. The entire outer surface is finely decorated in relief with stylised taotie motifs, framed by geometric patterns. The decorative pattern is repeated on all sides and continues partly on the legs, which is evidence of a high degree of craftsmanship. The bronze has a greenish-green patina that indicates its age and natural oxidation. It is probably a ritual piece of archaic inspiration, typical of vessels used in religious ceremonies and offerings.
