Carved and lacquered wooden box, Qing dynasty

Lacquered and carved wooden box with metal fittings, rectangular. The interior structure reveals five front drawers. The dominant colour is bright red on a black background. The decoration is a combination of techniques: the front panel features a cartouche with a black fan with gold decoration. The sides and lid are covered with geometric fretwork patterns, which frame carved circular characters. Qing dynasty (1644–1912).
