Description.

It depicts a Chinese mythological animal 'bixie' in jade carved in one piece. Some of the details of the piece are openwork and some are engraved, all with great attention to detail.

"Bixie" are mythological creatures identified as guardians against the forces of evil. Since the Han dynasty, winged, beast-like figures with open jaws have been depicted in green jade. These mythological animals usually have their heads raised and their paws are intended to move.
