Description.
A ceremonial book composed of dark-green jade plates finely bound in brocaded textile covers with floral motifs. Each plate bears inscriptions in gilded Chinese calligraphy in regular and elegant lines, probably with poetic or philosophical content. The covers are fastened at the sides and the binding is reinforced to protect the delicate jade plates. Because of its great weight and refinement, this piece must have been intended for ceremonial display or as a gift of high rank. Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
