Carved jade “Cai Shen,” Qing Dynasty

A natural jade stone, white in color with an extensive honey-orange “skin” covering the surface. The obverse features a bas-relief carving of Cai Shen (财神), the God of Wealth, in a majestic pose, emerging from clouds and sacred flames. The reverse displays a mandala with Sanskrit characters. It is presented on a sophisticated carved wooden stand, consisting of a base in the shape of a lotus throne and clouds, and a mandorla with flamboyant edges. Qing Dynasty (1644–1912).   or later.
