Description.
Creamy white carved jade figure of a cicada with broad black and reddish-brown veins and spots covering much of the body. It depicts a ritual Hanchan cicada, slender and flat, with a curved head crowned with two appendages and wings represented on the sides with pointed edges. It is decorated with deep incised lines of simple design, taking advantage of the intense patina on the surface. Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD).
