Description.
Amulet carved from soft-toned jade with tan and reddish veins. It depicts a praying mantis perched on a bamboo stalk with great naturalism. The carver has made masterful use of the stone, taking advantage of the tan and reddish veins of the jade, with a pale green base, to give colour and liveliness to the figure of the mantis. Qing period or later.
