Description.
A carved jade figure depicting a reclining buffalo, a symbol of patience, strength and prosperity. The sculpture has a robust body with smooth, rounded lines, with the legs carefully folded under the body. The expressive head has finely worked curled horns, large almond-shaped eyes and a prominent muzzle. The tail is tucked to one side, reinforcing the sense of repose. The polished surface reveals a dark tonality with natural veining, with discreet lighter shades in areas of wear. Ming dynasty (1368-1644) or later.
