Description.
Carved jade stone, organically shaped and oval, with rounded ends. The jade is white, notably covered by a reddish and deep orange ‘skin’ or ‘shell’. The decoration is based on a subtle engraving depicting a scholar and an elephant in a landscape of pine trees and clouds, accompanied by a long poem. Presented in a custom-made textile box. Qing dynasty (1644–1912).
