Description.
A large piece of white Hetian jade, covered by an extensive rust-colored crust. It is notable for its extensive incised inscription, which reproduces a scholarly text. On the front, the carving makes use of an opening in the crust to reveal the white jade beneath, where motifs have been carved into what appears to be a grotto. The piece rests on a monumental wooden base carved with motifs of mountainous landscapes and pine trees. Qing Dynasty (1644–1912).
