Description.
A small carved jadeite vase, depicting a cabbage of undulating leaves that open towards the top of the vessel, forming the mouth. The body is intricately carved in high relief, with incised lines outlining the veins of each leaf. The base is circular and slightly protruding, giving stability to the piece. On the upper rim there are several insects, including a grasshopper, along with other small beetles, all of which make use of greener jade veins that contrast with the overall tonality of the body. The cabbage represents purity and abundance, and the insects allude to fertility and the passing of the seasons. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
