Description.
A trapezoid-shaped yellow jade ritual ornament with a flat surface and slightly curved polished faces. The piece is meticulously engraved and depicts the classic taotie mask. The front surface is elaborately designed with curved lines and geometric motifs that emphasise the eyes and nose of the mythological being. The jaw is defined by linear motifs and intertwining curves. On the lower part there are two through-perforation holes, probably for suspension or attachment to a ritual weapon or funerary object. It shows natural wear and patina due to age. Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BC) or later.
