Chinese painting ‘Court Scene under the Pine Tree’, signed Li Song

Ink and pigments on silk. Depicting an outdoor court scene. Under a leafy pine tree, a group of male and female figures are seen gathered around a table, possibly sharing a drink. The scene is set in a rocky, shaded setting, with great attention to detail in the folds of the clothing and the natural contours. On the right is the vertical inscription ‘三朝应奉, 李嵩画’, and a seal in red indicating ‘李嵩之’. Li Song (1190-1230) was a leading academic painter active during the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279).
