Description.
Painting executed in ink and pigments on paper, mounted in a brocade silk frame. It depicts the bodhisattva Guanyin in her ‘Shuiyue Guanyin’ (水月观音) iconography, seated in a contemplative pose on rock formations, surrounded by polychrome clouds, bamboo and lotus flowers. The upper part features a calligraphic inscription ‘觀世音菩薩’, next to two seals, and the lower part features the inscription ‘罗郡近事男张爰’ with the red seals “張爰之印” and ‘張爰福壽’. Zhang Daqian (1899–1983).
