Chinese painting, ‘Scholar and Children under Trees’, signed Qiu Ying

Ink and pigments on silk; on a brocade fabric frame. It depicts a scene in a garden, where a scholar watches three children playing in the shade of a large tree. In the upper right corner is a poem by Dong Qichang: ‘梅子余酸涩齿间, 芭蕉绿影映窗纱, 夏日漫长人倦起, 闲观孩童抚柳花’, next to the seal ‘董其昌’. In the lower left corner is the inscription ‘仇英宝父制’, accompanied by the seal ‘十洲’. There are also collector's seals: ‘真赏’, ‘真赏斋’, “亚园珍赏” and ‘十鼓斋’. Qiu Ying (c. 1494-1552).
