‘Deity’ jade pendant, Liangzhu culture

Dark brown, translucent jade with a rich patina resulting from age. The piece has an inverted trapezoidal shape; the design on the upper section depicts an anthropomorphic deity wearing a large headdress. Beneath it, a mythological mask unfolds, characterised by large eyes. Liangzhu culture (c. 3300–2300 BC) or later.
