“Dzi” agate bead, Liao Dynasty

Natural agate in shades of bluish-gray, brown, honey, and white. The piece has an elongated shape, widening in the center, adorned with a beautiful succession of natural polychrome bands—characteristic of this stone—that converge in the center to form an “eye.” The surface has been polished to highlight the stone's beauty. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
