Description.
Bracelet composed of eighteen spherical beads carved in dark red jade with natural variations towards cherry and purple tones. The beads show a polished surface, with some colour irregularities due to ageing and porosity. The number of beads, eighteen, is significant in the Buddhist context, as it can be related to the prayer bracelets or mālā used for mantra repetition. The choice of red jade is associated with vitality, protection and good fortune. Ming dynasty (1368-1644) or later.
