Description.

Glazed ceramic sculpture in Sancai tones, depicting the Parinirvana scene of Shakyamuni Buddha, the culminating moment of his passage to the final nirvana. The composition shows the Buddha reclining in a resting position on his right side, with his head resting on a pillow, his eyes closed and his expression of absolute peace. Four disciple monks accompany him in an attitude of recollection and lamentation, kneeling behind the bed. The rectangular base has reliefs of lotus flowers, a symbol of spiritual purity and rebirth, highlighted in polychrome enamels on a predominantly blue and brown background, showing wear and small losses of material, typical of its age.
