Description.

Engraving on paper. Based on the original composition by the celebrated French Rococo painter François Boucher. The scene illustrates a passage from classical mythology depicting Latona on the island of Delos, surrounded by nymphs and deities in a composition of marked dynamism and academic sensuality. The interplay of light and shadow characteristic of the copperplate engraving technique is particularly striking, meticulously recreating the folds of the drapery, the anatomy, and the ethereal atmosphere. Inscriptions with the title of the work and its attributions can be seen along the lower margin of the paper. The piece is presented in a sumptuous carved and gilded wooden frame in the historicist style, with profuse Baroque decoration of scrolls, rocaille, and floral motifs. Late 19th century.
