Francisco Arnedo Linares (1925–2011) “Facade”

Oil on panel.  This painting depicts a scene of traditional architecture with a distinctly rural and folk-art character typical of Valencia. One of the upper windows shows laundry hanging out to dry, which infuses the building with life and human vitality without the need to paint explicit figures. The scene is bathed in soft natural light, likely from a clear afternoon. The artist masterfully handles the play of light and shadow, casting dense shadows beneath the overhanging eaves and the wooden frameworks of the balconies. Signed in the lower right corner: “Arnedo.” Titled and signed on the reverse.
