Description.
White jade of great purity. The piece depicts the deity emerging from a composition of flowers and lotus buds. The figure is shown in a graceful and serene posture, holding a stem, with flowing robes that blend with the plant elements carved in high relief and openwork. Her face has an expression of deep benevolence and inner peace, and her hair is gathered in a high bun. She rests on an imposing two-tiered carved wooden base, the lower tier rectangular with lotus and fretwork details, and the upper tier in the form of a halo of sharp flames, set on a base of rocks and flowering lotuses that blend into the jade. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
