Description.
Rectangular Hetian jade plaque with rounded edges. The jade is white, with a rich reddish-brown ‘rust skin’. The decoration shows, in relief, the figures of two scholars in a garden with pine trees and rocks. The carving has made virtuous use of the reddish-brown patina. The reverse side features an engraved poem alongside the signature ‘子冈’ in relief. With a custom-made lined box. Qing dynasty (1644–1912).
