Description.
Hetian white jade carved brush holder, rectangular with straight walls and four angular, stepped feet. The jade is pure white in colour with a polished finish. The decoration is subtle, with each of the four panels showing a different plant, evoking the four seasons (chrysanthemum, plum blossom, bamboo, and orchid), carved in low relief. The base bears an inscription of engraved characters and incised seals. The piece is presented on a custom-carved wooden base. Qing dynasty (1644–1912).
