Hetian white jade ‘Seed and Bird’, Qing dynasty

High-purity white jade. The piece has an organic, flattened shape that resembles a large seed or fruit, whose surface has been meticulously carved with a geometric scale pattern. It stands out for its use of the natural ochre-honey colouring to sculpt a bird in flight and veined leaves in relief. Qing dynasty (1644–1912).
